Similar to last year, The Ninja Challenge took place at Drake Landing, a hunting preserve just south of Fuquay-Varina, NC. EOCR was able to get a sneak peek and test run to provide feedback a week prior to the race, and it was a lot of fun.
One of the differences between The Ninja Challenge and many other races we do is that this is an obstacle course race, but not a mud run. You may get wet, you may get dirty, but you’re not covered in mud and clay that’ll require a new pair of shoes. I consider it a great selling point of the Ninja Challenge, and it’s one of the aspects that had me coming back for more this year.
The obstacles this year have changed a bit. Some have been improved, such as the wall traverse: The nailed-on two-by-fours that quickly came apart last year were replaced with rock climbing rubberized hand grips, which made the obstacle much more enjoyable. Similarly, the walls also had hand and foot grips to help less experienced runners to get across them. Other obstacles were placed differently — the roof tops, for instance, were unfortunately no longer placed on water, which made them a little less thrilling in my opinion. To make up for that, we decided to run the “swamp road” obstacle in pairs. The chimney climb had been improved as well.
As may be obvious from the video, most of our group ran the course twice. Once for speed, once for fun. I am most certainly looking forward to running it again next year!
The next race for me will be the Legend Race. See you all there!

They hired a professional video production company that did a couple takes of various scenes and is working on creating the awesome trailer. …

Phew! The Timberjack Challenge is a team-based event, organized by the Me Fine Foundation. Our obstacle course workout group had two teams partake in this event. And although it was “only” a 5K, there were 31 obstacles, and the race took about an hour. We ran the 5K distance almost exclusively in mud, which was rather strenuous. …
